At Egemeo Foundation, our mission is clear: to alleviate the suffering caused by jigger infestations and restore hope and dignity to those most vulnerable. Through our JIGGER Campaign Program, we confront the physical, emotional, and social devastation inflicted by this condition, focusing on school-going children and the elderly.
The Harsh Reality
Jigger infestations cause relentless pain, severe infections and, in extreme cases, permanent disability. For children, this often results in low self-esteem, bullying, and frequent school absenteeism that rob them of an education and a chance for a better future. For the elderly, the affliction restricts mobility and independence, leading to isolation and vulnerability.
Our Impact so Far
In 2018, we launched a three-month treatment initiative that successfully rehabilitated 70 school-aged children. This program not only improved their physical health but also renewed their confidence and enabled them to return to school and participate fully in their education. However, due to limited resources, the program was paused, and the COVID-19 pandemic further delayed our ability to resume.
In 2024, we reignited our efforts.
On September 16, we began a new three-month program to treat 22 individuals—17 children and 5 elders. Despite facing significant resource constraints, the program is making substantial progress, visibly transforming lives.
Why We Need Your Support
While our efforts are producing tangible results, the JIGGER Campaign Program is at risk of being interrupted again due to insufficient resources. Treating jigger infestations involves the provision of medical supplies, hygiene kits, footwear, and extensive community outreach. Without the necessary funding, our ability to continue offering hope and treatment is jeopardized.
